Technology will radically alter all aspects of our sexual ethics.

Would we change the way we act if we realized our technological-dating-sex-watching-tattoos are actually immortalizing our every whim? If you could know exactly what fantasies others have, how often, how often they masturbate or go out with someone they should not . . . If you could trace, à la Big Brother, every deception, slight, dalliance . . . If you could document every fraud, lie, or small fib posted on a dating site, . . . how would our ethical boundaries and judgments change?

Overall would we become a more open and tolerant society or a more restrictive and judgmental one? As we learn everything about what everyone else was doing and thinking, we may allow and tolerate behaviors that used to shame us. We may end up far more accepting of “deviations” or nonstandard moralities. Or perhaps we will further polarize between those who do and don’t tolerate at all.

Dating/sex is yet another segment of our lives where exponential technologies will lay bare and change our notions of ethical, and unethical, behaviors. Future generations will dissect and judge our behaviors, applying standards quite different from ours.

(And let’s hope that their judgments are less harsh than ours.)
